Lucid Imaging, a Bangalore, India-based manufacturer of print inspection systems, has completed the first North American installation of its OptiCheck LABEL print inspection system at the Imageworx Innovation Center in Levittown, PA.

Marketed in the US under the SureMax brand, the system has been integrated with a Berkeley Machinery slitter rewinder, providing Imageworx with continuous, high-resolution inspection as part of its label finishing workflow.

During rewinding, OptiCheck LABEL monitors the printed web for defects, enabling operators to stop the machine and review affected areas. A defect indicator helps operators quickly locate the position on the web where a detected defect has stopped, eliminating the need to manually search through the roll.

“The Lucid Imaging system is the most user-friendly imaging system that I have operated,” says Perry Strauss, chief operator, Imageworx Innovation Center.

The platform also maintains records of previously inspected jobs, allowing operators to review detected errors and associated approvals. An optional PDF verification module can compare printed output against approved PDF artwork when additional verification is required.

“This first installation is a significant milestone for Lucid Imaging,” says Dheeraj Kumar, product manager – OptiCheck LABEL at Lucid Imaging. “The focus at Imageworx is practical: dependable print inspection, straightforward operation and faster identification of the stopped defect position.”

According to Lucid Imaging, the integration demonstrates how its inspection technology can be incorporated directly into an established finishing workflow. The Imageworx installation will also serve as a North American reference as the India-based company expands its presence and support capabilities for label converters in the region.
